Description

Buy organic pomegranates from Northern Greece online

As a so-called superfood, the pomegranate is currently enjoying great popularity all over the world and enhances a wide variety of dishes. The cultivation of this exotic fruit has a long tradition in many countries and has been cultivated in the Mediterranean region for centuries – as confirmed by its appearance in Greek mythology as a symbol of love and fertility.

Today, you can buy pomegranates in almost every supermarket, but if you are looking for the genuine, Mediterranean taste experience – and that too in organic quality – you will rarely find it. In our Greek online shop, we therefore want to offer you the valuable pomegranate fruit grown by our long-standing partner Andreas in Nea Mesimvria – a small town near Thessaloniki in northern Greece.

We have been very good friends with Andreas for years and admire his passion for pomegranate cultivation, where he completely refrains from using fertilizers and sprays. The pomegranate does not need to be chemically protected – this is how he justifies the conscious decision for a sustainable and ecological cultivation method, which we strongly support. You can only buy our pomegranates between mid-October and early March, with the available quantity varying from year to year.

Order pomegranates and benefit from their positive effect on health

The pomegranate fruit offers much more than just a culinary experience and has been known in the Orient for centuries for its healthy ingredients and thus its healing effect. In addition to many vitamins, this wonder fruit is particularly rich in polyphenols, which, as natural antioxidants, have a positive effect on our blood lipids. In pharmacies and health food stores, you will often find pomegranate juice cures, which are especially intended for cholesterol or blood sugar levels.

So, when it comes to health, pomegranates are true all-rounders! If you want to find out more about the health benefits of the pomegranate fruit, we recommend consulting your pharmacist or family doctor.

Pomegranates from our online shop are versatile

Fruity sweetness, accompanied by a slightly sour note: The aromatic pomegranate seeds are ideal for versatile use in different cuisines around the world. They taste great in desserts, are suitable as an ingredient in savory dishes, are pressed into delicious juice, or add a special aroma to drinks as grenadine syrup.

Whether enjoyed pure as a topping or processed into a spicy sauce – the decoratively appealing, bright red fruit seeds must be separated from the surrounding peel before consumption. While the fruit is extremely tasty, getting to the valuable seeds is no easy task and is a real challenge for many.

At the weekly market, we have found that most customers cut the pomegranate in half and are reluctant to eat more of it due to the mess it creates in the kitchen. How to properly peel a pomegranate is a headache for many customers, which is why we have provided a short guide here.

Peel and deseed a pomegranate easily in a few steps

  1. Step: Cut off the top
  2. Remove the top
  3. Carefully remove the core
  4. Cut along the membranes
  5. Carefully down to the base
  6. Carefully break open
  7. Remove the membranes
  8. Enjoy the pomegranate sections

A little tip:
You can also score the pomegranate (from step 4) in the sink and break it open in a bowl of water. This way, you avoid juice splashes if a pomegranate seed bursts.

Peel and deseed a pomegranate easily in a few steps

A pomegranate may seem complicated at first glance, but with the right technique, it can be easily peeled and deseeded. Start by cutting off the "lid" of the pomegranate, i.e., the top cap. Carefully remove it and expose the core. Then, cut carefully along the white membranes that separate the individual chambers, down to the base of the pomegranate. Now you can carefully break open the fruit without damaging the seeds. Remove the remaining membranes, and you will have access to the juicy, ruby-red seeds, ready to enjoy.

The pomegranate captivates with its aroma and cultural significance in the Mediterranean region

The pomegranate is one of the oldest cultivated fruits of mankind and has had a firm place in the kitchens and cultures around the Mediterranean for millennia. Especially in Greece, it is traditionally valued – both in the kitchen and symbolically as a fruit of happiness and fertility. Our pomegranate comes from controlled cultivation in Greece and is harvested ripe, so that it can develop its full aroma. The bright red seeds, embedded in a thick, leathery peel, are not only visually a highlight, but also a real culinary enrichment.

With pomegranate, you bring Mediterranean freshness and versatility to your plate

A fresh pomegranate can be easily integrated into everyday life. The juicy seeds go perfectly with yogurt, desserts, couscous, or even with savory dishes such as lamb, venison, or feta. Freshly squeezed juice is also very popular and is a traditional drink in many Greek households. When you buy pomegranates, it is worth paying attention to their origin – because climate, ripening time, and harvesting methods significantly influence the taste. The fruits from Greece are characterized by a balanced aroma and intense color, which make them a popular companion in Mediterranean cuisine.
