Black pepper – peppercorns suitable for any mill.
Indian pepper has always been considered the best in the world. In India, pepper from the “Western Ghats” is known for its finest and noblest aroma. This mountain range, up to 2700 m high, runs along the South Indian Malabar Coast (Pepper Coast) in the state of Kerala. In the center of the Western Ghats is the Lake Periyar National Park, famous for its incredible biodiversity. Wild elephants, tigers, leopards, and buffalo are not uncommon there. In the middle of the national park, this unique pepper is cultivated without the use of chemicals by the indigenous people living there, who still live in tribal communities.
Only the aromatic, traditional pepper varieties, which are otherwise threatened with extinction, are used. The harvest quantities are not very large, but the aroma of this 17hundred-pepper is incredibly intense. Hand-picked and sun-dried, the 17hundred-pepper is filled completely naturally into unbleached cotton bags. The bags are also made by the indigenous people themselves. By guaranteeing a surcharge of 50% above the usual world market price for this gourmet pepper, you directly support these tribal communities and the construction of kindergartens, schools, and health stations in their area. The project was founded in 2001 by Rudolf Bühler.
